WCHS Celebrated Community Wellness at Annual Health Fair

Winnebago, NE – On Wednesday, May 28, Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS)  hosted its Health Promotions & Education Annual Health Fair at Winnebago Public Schools’ Gym, bringing together healthcare providers, public health professionals, and community members for a day dedicated to education, connection, and empowerment in health.

Native populations face persistent health disparities, including higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, and mental health challenges. In response to these urgent health challenges, the WCHS Health Promotions & Education Annual Health Fair serves as a vital opportunity to promote wellness, provide preventive care, and empower individuals with tools to improve their health.

This year’s event featured:

  • A Live Serve Blood Drive: 6 units of blood were given to contribute to regional health efforts

  • A Mile Walk for Wellness: 262 participants walked to better their health

  • Free Health Screenings for blood pressure, glucose levels, and more

  • Self Breast Exam education & Sign-up for Mammograms through Primary Care

  • Giveaways and Door Prizes to engage and encourage participation

“Days like this give me energy, it was a beautiful day for our community to gather, be active, be social, and learn something new. Thank you to everyone who came and every resource that participated,” said Felicia Masquat, WCHS Health Promotion Director.

324 attendees connected with WCHS departments including behavioral health, chronic disease prevention, women’s health, nutrition, and others. Public health educators were also on hand to provide culturally relevant materials and guidance tailored to tribal needs.

WCHS thanks all staff, volunteers, vendors, and community members who made this event a meaningful success.
