WCHS Breaks Ground on Five-Year Master Facilities Plan

WCHS Breaks Ground on Five-Year Master Facilities Plan

Winnebago, NE – Today, the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) broke ground on its Master Facilities Plan. The Master Facilities Plan will be a five-year transformation of the main campus building, including 90,000 square ft of new additions and current space renovations.

"This project scope will not only meet the needs of today," explained Lynelle Blackhawk, Chair of WCHS Board of Directors, "but will include building the foundation for expanded services to support a healthier future for you and your family."

The project is broken into 5 major phases to ensure minimal impact on patient care and patient experience. More than a simple expansion or renovation, this new facility is an investment in the prevention and centralized primary care services shown to empower healthier communities. Key components of the plan include a dialysis clinic, fitness center, drive-up window pharmacy, several Food is Medicine initiatives, and a renovated ER that prioritizes a more intentional and effective trauma workflow. With the help of our partners at Altus and Murray Construction, the completion of this plan will be a critical step for WCHS towards their vision of leading the nation in health for Indigenous people.

"It is just the beginning, the physical building; we have so much more in the works," describes WCHS CEO, David Edwards. "In my time at WCHS, I have enjoyed understanding, guiding, and navigating this important work for the relatives we serve. WCHS's future is bright, and I am honored to have been trusted to be a part of it."

The ceremony was held at the WCHS Main Campus on the grassy area along the south side of the parking lot, where over 150 community members, employees, leaders, and partners gathered to mark the historic moment for the Winnebago Tribe, and all WCHS's relatives joined us in celebrating this important step forward.
